A Kitchen for Recent Empty Nesters

Building the heart of a home for a creative couple.

This artist and gallery owner had definite ideas as to what they wanted. With a natural talent at creating experiences and gathering people, no amount of Pinterest Boards could solve the challenge of a home for a 19th-century family.

The heart of their big extended families means lots of gathering. Exposing a line of light, drawing you from the entry, through the entirety of the home to the back, was needed to emphasize hearth & home; the kitchen.

The history of the home made for some major roadblocks. Once upon a time supporting walls were removed. Demolition also unearthed water and critter damage. It seemed like with each improvement, a weaknesses was exposed. It takes a special client to see it through— recommiting over and over.

And, eventually, we got there!

Taking care of the unseen aspects of a rennovation is far from sexy, but we think a new wide-planked wood ceiling might have eased the memory of any interim pain.
